Poisonous plants for cats – Lilies

This poisonous cat plant is a tropical plant with spotted leaves and also known as “The king of plants”. Although it might look chewable for a cat it most certainly is not. The leaves contain raphides which are crystals shaped like needles and as you might have guessed these are the reason to why the dieffenbachia is considered a poisonous cat plant. Also known as “elephant ear” this beautiful ornamental plant is a nice addition to your home. But do not combine it with owning a cat. All parts of this poisonous cat plant are a danger to your cat if chewed on. Seldom leading to death it will inflict harm on your cat in form of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and difficulty breathing. No reason to put your cat through that.

Poisonous plant for cats – Mistletoe

While it can be difficult to keep your cat away from it outdoors, you can at least see to it that your cat can’t reach or play with it while indoors. Being such a common Christmas tradition within some cultures, it is often forgotten to be a poisonous cat plant, but do not fool yourself. The mistletoe is a real danger for your cat. If your cat eat or chew on the berries of this poisonous cat plant it can be sure of suffering from blisters in the mouth, vomiting, diarrhea and difficulty breathing.

Not really a Poisonous plant for cats – Catnip

Although commonly used with no actual negative side effects, the sheer smell of the smell of catnip will make most cats act rather strange and excited. The reason it is listed here with other obviously poisonous cat plants is because people tend to overuse it. Although no visual side effects, there has been research showing that it might actually work as a drug. Although a drug wasn’t proven dangerous, you wouldn’t really want to use it every day, just to be on the safe side. Keep that in mind when giving catnip to your purring little friend
